1 July 2015 Newsletter Page 1 OFFICERS DIRECTOR Bobby Sebastian ( ) Bastbseb@suddenlink.net ASST. DIRECTOR Dan Fontenot ( ) DanFontenot@suddenlink.net HOG MANAGER Mike McDonald ( ) BigMac@RenegadeHD.com TREASURER Ginny Brand ( ) GinnymBrand@yahoo.com HEAD ROAD CAPTAIN Kelley Pears ( ) KelleyHOG@aol.com SECRETARY & ACTIVITIES Robyn Chappell ( ) RjChappell@hotmail.com MEMBERSHIP Becky Ham ( ) BeckyGHam@hotmail.com EDITOR Cheryl Garland ( ) Garland2014@aol.com PHOTOGRAPHER Bob Hales ( ) Robert2986@aol.com From the Director Renegade HOG Chapter 3662 HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA July 4, 1776 is when we celebrated our independence because that is when Congress adopted the Declaration of Independence. It wasn t until September 3, 1783 that the United States and Great Britain signed the Treaty of Paris that officially ended the Revolutionary War. That is over 7 years of war with Britain that at times didn t go very well. Great Britain was the superpower of that age. The French participation in our revolution is sometimes overlooked and began with the arrival of Lafayette on July 27, France s main interest was involvement in anything that would damage the British Empire and our revolution gave them an excellent opportunity to do just that. The Constitution was signed on September 7, 1787 and finally adopted on June 21, 1788 when New Hampshire ratified it. We lost two of our own this month. Sharon Brown and Jay Coleman were part of our Renegade HOG family and they will be missed. Both of them liked being part of the Renegade HOG Chapter and you would see them often on our rides and at functions. I broke out my hydro-vest for the last couple of rides and if you ve never worn one, they work at least for about an hour before they dry out and need to be recharged. I submerge mine in water for about 5 minutes and then sling the extra water off before putting it on. I m passed the need to look cool and actually go for being cool. This month we had excellent rides to Avery Island and the Tabasco Plant, Natchitoches, Little Big Cup Restaurant in Arnaudville, the Arkansas HOG Rally, and attending the Cajun HOG monthly meeting at Prejean s. Head Road Captain, Kelley Pears and the Renegade HOG Road Captains planned rides for July and they are posted in this newsletter. Come play with us. There will be 6 Australians, from the Sydney HOG Chapter, visiting Natchitoches and New Orleans from July 14 th to 16 th. Mike Menou and I are coordinating their visit and I ll lead a ride up to Natchitoches on July 15 th. Kickstands up at 8:00 am from Renegade HD. Be Safe and Blessed, Bobby Rev Sebastian Director-Renegade HOG Chapter
2 IN MEMORY OF SHARON BROWN AND JAY COLEMAN In June we lost two beloved members of our HOG family. Our deepest sympathies to their families. We watched Sharon blossom the more at home she felt with the HOG members. Her sense of humor and loving nature captured all of our hearts. Jay enjoyed spending time socializing at Renegade HD and at Chapter meetings. He took care of his father the last few years. Sharon and Jay will be missed and in our thoughts as we ride!
3 July 2015 Newsletter Page 3 The Evolution of the Harley-Davidson Motorcycle By (Skinny) Rob Reich After a 5-year hiatus, an unfaired FLHT is offered under the revised FLHS Electra-Glide Sport name. The new FLHR Road King replaces the twicediscontinued FLHS. FLHR gets the Twin Cam 88.
4 July 2015 Newsletter Page 4 The Evolution of the Harley-Davidson Motorcycle By (Skinny) Rob Reich Harley-Davidson launched the Custom Vehicle Operations (CVO) line in Each year, the Motor Company selects a couple lucky models for a factory custom make-over. It was the Road King's turn in 2002 and the result: FLHRSEI, or FLHR + Screaming Eagle (as in racing parts) + I (as in Roman numeral one, indicating the first of many). For the second year in a row, the Motor Company selected the Road King for factory installed upgrades in the CVO program. This is the FLHRSE2 (which was also briefly known as FLHRSE1 2. But we know that one squared is still one, and the nomenclature soon changed).
