At times the "Marientorzwinger" was known as the Schellhornzwinger or Kißkaltzwinger. In 1859 the well liked Queen of Bavaria, Marie Friederike Franziska Hedwig, born Princess of Prussia, lent her name to this famous tavern and it has been called "Marientorzwinger" ever since. The noble patron of the name who lived from was well liked by all commoners even by the Franconians. By the way, her son was the famous Fairy tale- King Ludwig II. Nowadays the "Marientorzwinger" is probably one of the most beautiful restaurants in Nuremberg with its cozy, comfortable pub room and its great, shady beer garden.
