2 SEMINAR 2019 I am so excited to invite you to attend our 32 nd GSQA Educational Seminar. It is finally time to register! Fabulous teachers anxious to share new projects and techniques with eager students! Excited and enthusiastic students filling classrooms, be sure to be in that number! It is so much fun to see friends happily greeting one another and new friendships being formed all through the love of quilting. The location of our 2019 seminar is the Northshore Harbor Center in Slidell, LA. Your registration packet contains information regarding schedule of events, list of all teachers, classes and list of supplies for each class. Register early for your favorite classes, there is something for everyone. All communication pertaining to registration will be done through . We will have opportunity basket ticket sales for fabulous baskets donated by our affiliated guilds. Box lunches are being pre-ordered, you must order with your seminar registration. No orders will be taken at the Harbor Center. There are no restaurants within walking distance of the Harbor Center or in the Harbor Center. Be sure to sign up for the evening events. And on Friday night there will be a Social with a Teacher Vendor Mall and Book signing. Be in the number that attends and visit with your quilting friends and meet the teachers. 3 REGISTRATION: Complete and return the registration form with your check (made payable to GSQA) to: Margie Bumm, 202 Wylie Dr., Baton Rouge, LA Phone: deadline is: Friday February 15, 2019 Confirmation will be returned via address. If you do not have an please be sure to include the $3.00 postage fee in your registration fees. Process: o The Blue Book will be available on the GSQA website November 23, 2018 the day after Thanksgiving! o Any seminar registrations postmarked between November 23 and December 8, 2018, will be considered FIRST PRIORITY registrations. These registrations will be the first ones assigned to classes. If a class overfills during the Priority period, ONLY those registrations will be considered in the lottery to determine who gets in that class. o After the priority period, classes will be filled on a first come, first served basis. Once a class reaches its capacity, as set by the teacher, a wait list will be maintained. o Approximately December 19, a confirmation or letter will be sent to those who registered during the priority registration period. o s that arrive after December 8 will be held and processed in postmark date order, beginning shortly after Christmas. A confirmation or letter will be sent regarding those registrations on an ongoing basis, as they are processed. o Deadline for registrations will be February 15, No class changes will be accepted after March 10, o Self-addressed, stamped envelopes WILL NO LONGER BE REQUIRED. If you have an address, all correspondence will be made via . For those who prefer mailed confirmations, a $3.00 postage fee should be submitted with the registration. FEES: Class fees are: $65.00 for GSQA members (not a member no problem join now and pay member prices) and $85.00 for non-members. Any fees requested by a teacher will be collected in the class and paid directly to the teacher. REFUND AND CANCELLATION POLICY: If you are unable to attend a class in which you are registered, you may send another GSQA member in your place with a written note from you. (Please notify Margie Bumm 202 Wylie Dr. Baton Rouge LA or her at mbumm43@gmail.com of this change.) Cancellations must also be made in writing ( is acceptable) and postmarked no later than February 28, No refunds will be given after this date. NO CLASS CHANGES WILL BE MADE AFTER SUNDAY MARCH 10, CLASS ANGEL: You will receive a list of duties prior to Seminar. Class angels work with the teachers to help take up any class fees, check roll, and see that any special needs of the teachers are 3
4 met. They will also be responsible for equipment used in classroom. If you would like to be an angel in any of your classes, please check the angel block on your registration form. HOTEL RESERVATIONS: GSQA has a booking agreement with the following hotels in Slidell. The prices quoted are for rooms reserved for March 26 through March 30, Rooms must be booked before the agreement expiration date to get the price quoted here. The number of rooms is limited, so book early. 8 BASIC SEWING SUPPLIES YOU WILL FIND, BY EACH CLASS, THE SUPPLIES THAT ARE REQUIRED. YOU WILL NOT FIND A LIST OF BASIC SEWING SUPPLIES. EVERYONE IS REQUIRED TO BRING BASIC SEWING SUPPLIES TO EACH CLASS. THAT LIST MAY BE DIFFERENT FOR EACH PERSON. IT IS THE SUPPLIES THAT YOU USE REGUARLY TO SEW. BUT HERE IS A BASIC LIST: 1. NOTE PAD AND PENCIL TO TAKE NOTES 2. EXTENSION CORD ONE WITH MUTIPLE OUTLETS ON IT. THERE ALWAYS SEEMS TO BE A SHORTAGE OF EXTENSION CORDS. PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU BRING ONE IF NOT A COUPLE TO BE SURE YOU CAN CONNECT TO THE POWER SOURCE. 3. AN IRONING SURFACE AND SMALL IRON ALTHOUGH THIS IS ON THIS LIST YOU MAY NOT USE IT IN ALL CLASSES. NORMALLY THERE ARE 2-3 COMMUNITY IRONING STATIONS SET UP. BUT JUST IN CASE THERE IS NOT AND IF YOU WANT TO BE PREPARED FOR ANYTHING STICK ONE IN YOUR SUPPLIES. IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO CARRY EXTRA THINGS THEN YOU WILL PROBABLY HAVE A SHARING NEIGHBOR THAT WILL LET YOU USE HERS. 4. A TABLE LIGHT WE ALL KNOW THE BEST OF LIGHTING IN A CLASSROOM IS NEVER GOOD ENOUGH FOR US QUILTERS TO SEE OUR WORK. SO IF YOU THINK YOU MAY HAVE A PROBLEM SEEING IN THE CLASSROOM PACK A TABLE LIGHT AND MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE MUTIPLE PLUGS ON YOUR EXTENSION TO PLUG IT IN. HERE AGAIN YOU MAY NOT NEED IT BUT. IF YOU DO YOU ARE PREPARED. 5. PINS, THREAD, NEEDLES, SCISSORS, SEAM RIPPERS, RULERS, ROTARY CUTTERS AND BOARDS ALL FALL IN THE BASIC SEWING SUPPLIES. SOME TEACHERS ARE SPECIFIC IN SIZES SO ALWAYS CHECK THE CLASSES YOU SIGN UP FOR. 6. SMALL TRASH CONTAINER FOR YOUR SCRAPS 7. DESIGN WALL IF NEEDED FOR YOUR PROJECT, TAPE (BLUE PAINTERS) TO HANG IT ON WALL BASIC SEWING SUPPLIES INCLUDE ANYTHING YOU USE ON A REGULAR BASIS TO SIT AND SEW. SO BRING WHAT MAKES YOU HAPPY! 8
