1 Schedule of Classes Please read very carefully all the hints offered to help entrants. General Flowers Hints 1. Anyone can enter any of the classes offered, but only men may enter the Men Only classes (nos. 15 and 55-58), and only children, the Children s Classes. However, children may also enter any of the adult classes for the child entry fee. 2. The judges do note the size and number in each entry. If your entry is bigger / smaller than the size stated in the schedule or you enter the wrong number of specimens, please be aware that your entry will not be judged. 3. Where two or more items are required to be displayed, they should match as closely as possible. 1. Cut flowers should be displayed in water with all stems in the water and in a container of your choice. You are recommended to cut your flowers the evening before the show, so they can take up water. 2. Arrange your entry as a"rac#vely as possible and use only good flowers / foliage. Huge displays are not necessary. Please also take note of the measurements s#pulated. 3. Check that your entry consists of the correct number of specimens. Entries with the incorrect number will be disregarded. 4. Remember that when entering a certain number of cut flowers, a bud counts as one flower. 5. When entering a set number of flowers, choose specimens of a uniform size. 6. Bought-in foliage is only allowed in flower arrangement classes, nos Clema s, 3 blooms with own foliage, arranged for effect. 002 Sweet peas, 6 stems, any colour specimen Rose, scented. 004 Roses, 6 stems, single or mixed colour. 005 Dahlias, 3 stems, any variety, single or mixed colour. 006 Any 3 garden flowers of your choice. 007 An African violet in a pot decora vely presented. Flower arrangements: 008 A planted tub or container, your choice of plants and / or foliage, pot and plants not to exceed 24 / 61cms in height. 009 A flower arrangement in a boot. 4 >>>>>>>>>

2 010 The changing of the guard an arrangement using red and black materials only. To be viewed from the front. Fresh and / or dried material can be used. Not to exceed 18 / 46cms wide. 011 A hand-"ed bouquet. 012 Beachcombing a foliage arrangement, accessories allowed. Max. width 18 / 46cms. 013 A Wimbledon arrangement a gi# to offer to the winner. Max. width 18 / 46cms. 014 A flower arrangement with a Beatrix Po%er theme, accessories allowed. Max. width 18 / 46cms. 015 MEN ONLY 0n the wild side an arrangement of flowers displayed in a gravy boat, not to exceed 10 / 25cms in width, height, or depth. Fruit Hints 1. All entries are to be displayed on a plain white plate (no decora!on on the plate, please) 2. Apples and pears may be exhibited either ripe or unripe. All other fruit must be ripe. Over-ripeness will be regarded as a defect. 3. All fruit, with the excep!on of peaches and nectarines, should be shown with the stalk a"ached and with the natural bloom. Do not polish, and handle as li"le as possible. Use the stalk for handling, not the fruit itself. 4. So# fruit should have the calyx (the end opposite the stalk) a"ached. 5. In classes for example, raspberries only put out the best ones. A minimum of 8, maximum of 12 is acceptable. Do not spoil your entry with less good examples Melon, variety named. 017 Rhubarb, 3 s!cks, leaves trimmed. 018 Currants, one named variety. 019 Raspberries, one named variety. 020 Strawberries, one named variety. 021 Gooseberries, one named variety. 022 Blueberries, one named variety. 023 Any other edible berries of the same named variety. 024 A collec!on of edible berries, 4 each of 3 different kinds. 025 Any other fruit not men!oned previously in this sec!on (minimum of 3, maximum of 6). Vegetables 1. All entries are to be displayed on a plain white plate (no decora!on on the plate, please) 2. Entries should be presented as a"rac!vely as possible, with all roots carefully washed. 3. Check that your entry consists of the correct number of specimens. Entries with the incorrect number will be disregarded. 4. Root vegetables (beetroot, carrots, parsnips, turnips etc) should be dressed i.e. have some of their leaves removed, showing not more than 3 / 7.5cm of stalk neatly bound with raffia or string. 5. You should leave the stalks on tomatoes, beans, cucumbers and courge"es. Courge"es should be displayed with their flowers, if possible. 6. Ideally, runner beans should be straight. 7. Onions should be presented with their roots trimmed, the tops may be whipped, and they should be staged on rings cut from cardboard i.e. the centre tube of a kitchen roll. A li"le of the rough, dry skin on onions may be removed, but not too much. 8. In the novelty classes, quality is not important different herbs, all named, displayed in water in a small jar or vase chillies, your choice of colour and variety sweet peppers, any colour garlic bulbs, tops bound beetroot globes, any colour, root intact, 3 / 7.5cm of foliage only. >>>>>>>>> 5

(This measurement does not include the flower) peas in their pods, any variety. 1 pod at least should be opened broad beans. 1 pod at least should be opened runner beans French beans marrows, as iden#cal as possible onion bulbs, 9oz / 250gm or less each onion bulbs, over 9oz / 250gm each potatoes of the same variety, white or coloured potatoes, salad type, named small fruited, cherry or plum tomatoes of the same variety, not exceeding 1.5"/ 4cm in diameter standard /medium tomatoes of the same variety beef tomatoes of the same variety. 044 A variety of salad leaves, named and displayed in a white bowl containing a li!le water. 045 A pair of cucumbers, any variety, minimum length 6 / 15 cm squashes and/or gourds can be a mix of varie#es. 047 Novelty class: the oddest shaped vegetable (1). 048 Novelty class: the longest runner bean (1). 049 Any other vegetable (up to 6 on a plate) not previously men#oned in this sec#on. Preserves 1. All jams, preserves and chutneys (except orange or lemon curd) must be presented in a jar of at least 450g (1lb) size, labelled and dated with the day, month and year of making and should have been made within the last twelve months. 2. Remember to fill the jars to the top to prevent mould forming and use a waxed disc. 3. Orange / Lemon curd may be presented in a jar of at least 225g (½lb size), have a waxed disc and a cellophane top, and should be labelled and dated with the day, month and year of making. 4. Chutney should be mature (at least two months old) and have a plas"c-lined lid. It should be labelled with its contents and dated with the day, month and year of making. 5. Please be advised that preserves should not be presented in jars that obviously adverse other products e.g. Dolmio, Bon Maman, Roses, etc as this contravenes the Trade Descrip!ons Act. Please note this instruc!on or your entry will be disqualified. If you don t have any plain jars, rather than not entering, please ask one of the organisers for some. 050 Jar of homemade jam. 051 Jar of homemade jelly. 052 Jar of homemade marmalade. 053 Jar of homemade orange or lemon curd. 054 Jar of homemade chutney / pickle. Bakery 1. All bakery entries are to be displayed on a plain white plate (no decora!on on the plate, please). 2. To comply with hygiene regula!ons, where possible please cover all food with either a clear polythene bag, clingfilm or a dome. 3. Please be sure to comply with all specified sizes. Any entry of a different size will be disregarded. 4. Entries must not be warm when brought for display. 5. Remember plain flour makes be%er pastry than self-raising. >>>>>>>>> 6

4 Men Only Baking 055 A carrot cake, loaf or round!n acceptable. 056 A lemon drizzle cake, loaf or round!n acceptable date and walnut scones. 058 A round of shortbread, le! whole but marked into segments. Please note this requirement. General Baking / Cooking apple muffins as per the recipe at the back of this schedule Viennese whirls. 061 An open apricot tart, minimum width 7 / 18cms, maximum 10 / 25cms. 062 A Black Forest gateau, minimum width 7 / 18cms, maximum 10 / 25cms. 063 A decorated gluten-free chocolate cake, minimum width 7 / 18cms, maximum 10 / 25cms. 064 An apple cider tray bake, cut into squares and displayed on a cake stand, as per the recipe at the back of this schedule. 065 A hand-made loaf of bread, any flour. 066 Foccaccia, hand-pulled to approximately tray bake size, own choice of ingredients. 067 A roasted vegetable lasagne, oblong or square dish. 068 A Pavlova, own choice of filling and decora!on, minimum width 7 / 18cms, maximum 0 / 25cms. 069 A trifle, own choice of ingredients, minimum width of bowl, min. 7 / 18cms, maximum 10 / 25cms. 070 Home-made yogurt, plain or flavoured, presented in a small white ramekin dish and covered in clingfilm. 071 A bo%le of home-made cordial or lemonade, labelled with its ingredients, and with a glass for tas!ng. Handicra! 1. All entries must have been created / made between July 2017 and July Every entry must be the work of the person who has entered it. 3. If wished, entries larger than 18 x 12 (46cms x 30cms)may be folded to meet the space allowed per entry. 4. Please put your name and telephone number or address on the back of each of your entries. No wring or marking is to be visible on the front of the exhibit. 5. All entries must have been created / made between July 2017 and July The Novice Class (082) is open to anyone who has only started painng or drawing in the last six months (January to June 2018). 3. Every entry must be the work of the person who has entered it. 4. All artwork may be presented on an (unhung) support structure of no larger than 18 x 12 (46cms x 30cms) if the entrant prefers. 5. Please put your name and telephone number or address on the back of each of your entries. No wri!ng or marking is to be visible on the front of the entry. 6. Please remember that you are responsible for collec!ng your entry at the end of the show. 7

This template can also be downloaded from the website: NOVICE CLASS : a drawing in any medium, not exceeding 24 / 61cms in width. 083 A pain!ng in oils or acrylic, (framed or unframed) not exceeding 24 / 61cm in width. 084 An original watercolour pain!ng (framed or unframed) not exceeding 24 / 61cms in width. 085 Any drawing in pastels or charcoal, 8 x 10 / 20cms x 25cms size. 086 Any pencil drawing, 8 x 10 / 20cms x 25cms size. 087 A collage using paint, pencil, wax, fabric, etc, 12 square / 30.5cms square. 088 A hand-made bird box. 089 A piece of wood carving. 090 An item made from totally recycled material, not to exceed 18"/46cms in width. 091 An entry of any other cra#, not previously men!oned in this sec!on - not exceeding 24 /61cm in width. Photography 1. Photographs may be in black and white or colour. 2. They should be no larger than A5 (8 x 6 / 20 x 15cm) size, unframed, and should be mounted on card giving a border of no more than 1 / 2.5cms all round. The colour of the mount you choose should enhance the photo. 3. All photographs must have been taken in the last twelve months. 4. Every entry must be the work of the person who has entered it. 5. Please put your name and telephone number or address on the back of each of your entries. No wri!ng or marking is to be visible on the front of the entry. 6. Please remember that you are responsible for collecng your entry at the end of the Show. 092 A photograph of a building in Catherington, Clanfield or Horndean. 6 Children s Classes 1. There is a separate entry form for children s entries. Please be sure to use it. 2. The child s date of birth should be stated clearly on the form. 3. Classes are clearly marked for age groups as follows: up to 7 years / 8 to 11 years inclusive / 12 to 16 years inclusive. Entrants should be in the correct category for their age on the day of the Show, 7 th July Each entry must be the child s unaided work. No direct help is to be given. 5. All bakery exhibits are to be displayed on a plain white plate (no decora!on on the plate, please). For hygiene reasons, they should be covered with a clear polythene bag, clingfilm or a dome. 6. For classes 116 and 117, the hints for the Photography Sec!on apply. Please read them very carefully before you enter these classes Up to 7 years: 100 A collec!on of 6 different leaves, mounted on a sheet of A4 card or paper with each leaf named decorated biscuits, any flavour rock cakes. 103 A model of a creature using building blocks of your choice. Maximum width 12 / 30.5cms. 104 Colour me calm : The Sail Boat, any medium. The outline is at the back of this schedule.
