2 Nutrition Program Arlene Castro (760) , ext Healthy Tip Warm weather means grilling time with family and friends and time to enjoy delicious foods. The American Heart Association wants you to keep these important tips in mind to help you grill fat-sensibly through the warm seasons. Go for grilled fish more often. The healthiest types include salmon, trout and herring, which are high in heart-healthy omega-3 fatty acids. Buy chicken breasts, remembering to remove the skin before eating, instead of the fattier dark meat (legs and thighs). Or try grilling up chicken or turkey burgers using breast meat, and add diced onions for another layer of flavor. Go green and eat the rainbow. Serve green leafy salads or fruit salads. Instead of potato chips, which can be high in saturated and trans fats, serve raw veggies like cucumber, carrot and celery sticks, cherry tomatoes and broccoli and cauliflower florets with a low-fat dip. Lunchtime Events Lunch served at 11:30 am. Event times are listed below. Please sign up at the Front Desk or call (760) to make a reservation by 1 pm the day before. Monday, July 3 Lunch Thank you to our sponsors. Independence Day Celebration 10:30 am to 11:30 Must RSVP in Advance for Enjoy a traditional beef hamburger or a hotdog on a bun with a side of coleslaw and a delicious watermelon or apple pie to sweeten your day. Please see any nutrition staff member for more information. Did you know that if you qualify for the farmer s market vouchers you may qualify for CalFresh? Your health is dependent upon fueling your body with nutritious foods and your well- being will improve if you allow this program to work for you by financially supplementing your monthly food budget. The program also provides an electronic benefits transfer (EBT) card that can be used here at the SAC for lunch donations. Many of our seniors are benefiting from this program. See Sylvia if you would like more information. This summer our family is headed to Texas for my parents 50th wedding anniversary. Hot, rainy weather is in the forecast but we re sure to have a great time.
