By initially employing European master craftsmen who then shared the craft from their homelands, we have striven to preserve these traditional methods to deliver our customers that outstanding DON experience every time. This recognition stems from a passion and dedication to quality, first instilled by Australian butcher R.J. Gilbertson. Out of a small Essendon store he began producing a range of processed meats that stayed true to the curing tradition of Smallgoods found in Europe, and through this steadfast commitment to quality his business became one of the biggest names in the Australian food landscape, DON. Today DON is one of Australia s largest Smallgoods manufacturers, proudly producing our award winning hams, bacon, salami, franks and continentals from our Castlemaine site in Victoria. Originally produced by the Darling Downs Bacon Co-operative Ltd, KR branded bacon and ham have been enjoyed by Australians since 1911 when the Co-op was first formed.
