What a great time to enhance our pride in America and the privilege of being an American! July is also National Hot Dog, Ice Cream and Picnic Month. There s no better way to beat the heat than with some cool refreshing ice cream. Our Henderson Center responds to the important mission of supporting adults of all ages and senior citizens in their efforts to remain independent, with dignity in the community. The atmosphere of pride and patriotism will be strong as we will continue to offer the fun activities that our participants enjoy, including: A daily exercise program, Tai Chi, Organic Gardening, Bingo competitions, Arts & Crafts and live entertainment in the afternoons. 2 HIGHLIGHTS FROM JUNE Our Father s Day Party was simply marvelous. We celebrated our Fathers with live music and laughter performed by Marc Love: A wonderful lunch was served, making the day quite special. Our seniors continue to take their morning strolls before it gets too warm. Everyone has enjoyed basking in the warm sunshine, sitting and chatting in the shade as they watch their fellow participants play shuffleboard. We have observed smiles and laughter during Cool Trivia Karaoke. Betty s Sign Language class has been a big hit with our seniors. Everyone is looking forward to our ASL fun days. NEW ARRIVALS We are pleased to welcome the new participant who became a part our Center family in July: Mark B. CLOSURES The Center will be closed Saturday, July 4 th GET PLUGGED IN! There s an amazing state-of-the-arts computer lab here at the Henderson Center, Located in the Library Quiet Room, next to the Arts & Crafts department. The software and technology suits any and all needs.

3 DID YOU KNOW? The average American eats 5 ½ gallons of ice cream in a year. President Reagan declared July as National Ice Cream month. EVENTS IN JULY We would like everyone to join us for Tai Chi on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10:00am, Thursday Sign Language with Betty at 1:00pm, Cool Trivia everyday at 12:30pm, and Move & Grove to Karaoke on Thursday at 1:00pm. Caregivers are invited. On July 3rd we will be celebrating Independence Day. We will have a Parade starring our seniors and star spangled banner games. There will be a delicious barbeque served, so come dressed in your red, white and blue to enjoy the fun. Please don t forget to submit your recipes. See attached flyer for details. Be on the look out for some surprise events throughout the month. If these are not your regularly scheduled days, we would still love to see you here. GETTING SCENT-IMENTAL A new aromatherapy scent, Rosemary is thought to stimulate the brain and improve mental performance. By using certain aromas in conjunction with activities such as reading, music therapy or meditation, aromatic compounds can actually influence your brain s chemistry to heighten your mood or sharpen your mind in a way that s safe and all natural. Rosemary will be the aromatic of choice as we continue with our aromatherapy series in July.

4 SEE WHAT S IN BLOOM! See what s in bloom on our beautifully landscaped patio. We would like to invite everyone to take a stroll on our patio in the cool morning hours. You will find a beautiful landscape full of summer hues of purple, orange and bright plantings. HAPPY BIRTHDAY Our birthday party will be held on the 5 th Wednesday of the month, July 29th, We would like to wish a Happy Birthday to Robert Sm. (7/4), Glen C. (7/12) Sally H. (7/26) and Gerry S. (7/30). Entertainment will be provided and birthday treats will be served as well. SUPPORT GROUP We have Support Groups on the 2 nd and 4 th Tuesday of every month at 10:00-11:00am please see attached flyer for more details on caregiver support programs and community forums.
