3 Chrysanthemums Open Classes Please note that only those disbud cultivars classified as late or October flowering can be exhibited at this show. However, early flowering sprays (Section 29) will be permitted in Class 5 only. Five Vase CH1: 5 Vases of 3 Blooms, with each vase a distinct Cultivar. A minimum of 3 different Cultivars to be shown. A National Vegetable Society Silver Medal will be awarded for the Best Exhibit. CH5: 3 dishes of potatoes, each containing 3 tubers of 3 distinct varieties. A Loaf of Bread, made with 1lb/450g flour, baked in an oven 57. A Loaf of Bread, made with 1lb/450g flour, baked in a bread maker Potato Scones plate provided Savoury Tartlets, any flavour plate provided 60. A Bakewell Tart 180mm/7 max 61. Rich Yoghurt Chocolate Loaf Made to the following recipe:- Recipe makes 2 loaves only 1 needed for entry. 200g/8oz butter 100g/4oz dark chocolate (70% cocoa solids) 150g pot natural yoghurt 1 tsp vanilla extract 3 Lge eggs 250g/9oz SR flour 175g/6oz dark muscovado sugar ½ tsp Bicarbonate soda Topping 100ml/3½ fl.oz double cream 1 Tbs butter 100g/4oz dark chocolate, chopped Oven: 190oC/170oC fan/gas Mark 5 Grease and line 2 x 2lb loaf tins 5 K H S L a t e S h o w
6 Method: Put butter and chocolate in a large pan, heat gently until melted, stir and cool for 5 mins, then use a whisk to stir in yoghurt, vanilla, eggs and a pinch of salt. Mix the flour, sugar and bicarbonate of soda then stir into the chocolate mix. Ensure the mix is smooth no lumps of sugar. Pour or spoon into prepared tins. Bake for 45 mins or until cooked. Leave in the tin for 15 mins and then remove and cool on a rack. Put the cream into a small pan, bring to the boil then add the butter and half the chocolate, chopped. Take off the heat and leave to melt. Stir until smooth and shiny. 4. Spoon over the cool cake, then scatter with the second half of the chocolate. A decorated picture frame no larger than A4 Knaresborough Horticultural Society Perpetual Challenge Trophy - For the Most 1 st Prizes in the Children s Classes Competition Rules 1. Telephone Entries will be accepted, but completed entry forms, together with entry fees must be handed to the Secretary before staging the exhibits. 2. The exhibitor must have grown all exhibits for at least 8 weeks prior to the Show. (Floral art and Children sections excluded from this rule). 3. Objections to an exhibitor or exhibit must be made in writing to the Secretary, not later than 4.30 pm on the first day of the Show. The Secretary reserves the right to inspect any exhibitor s garden in order to determine if an objection is justified. 4. Whenever possible, all exhibits must be named by the exhibitor. 5. The decisions of the judges as to the relative merits of the exhibits staged are final. Prizes may be withheld at the judges discretion, if they consider an exhibit undeserving of the prize offered. 6. Exhibits and prize cards must not be removed before the time stated in the schedule. Any exhibitor breaking this rule will forfeit any prize money due. 7. The Committee will take every precaution against damage to exhibits staged, but cannot be held responsible for any damage or loss which may occur. 8. The Show Committee is authorised to settle any dispute that may occur, for any matter not specifically covered by these rules. 9. All trophies remain the property of the Society. Holders are required to sign to acknowledge receipt and to keep them in safe custody for 12 months until they are returned to the Society. 10. Exhibitors are requested to clear their exhibits and prize cards at the close of the Show and to clear pots, paper, vases etc. The Society would be pleased to receive any donation of unwanted exhibits that will be sold in the auction of produce at the close of the Show. 11. Handicrafts Classes: Exhibitors will only be allowed to enter an exhibit once, i.e. the same exhibit cannot be entered in competitive classes year on year. 7 K H S L a t e S h o w
8 Knaresborough Horticultural Society meets at The St. John s, Knaresborough HG5 9AE at 7.15 pm every 3 rd Wednesday of the month from September to April. During the summer, visits are arranged to gardens of interest. There are mini competitions planned for most months. From February, these will be for iris reticulate, daffodils and tulips. The bulbs are available, for a nominal fee, at the KHS meetings in the autumn.
