3 Our Lake Forest Residents News, Comments, Etc... Introduction to John Lyons; Written by: John Lyons Hi, my name is John Lyons. I am 14 years old and attend school at North Country School in Lake Placid, NY. My mom and dad are Anita and Glenn. My mother spoke a few Sundays ago at Lake Forest about Creative Aging. While spending time here this summer, I hope to achieve patience and a good work ethic while helping out. If you need any help with your cell phone or other electronic devices, you can ask and I will be glad to work with you. The times I am available are: Mondays 11:15am 2:00pm Thursdays 12:15pm 3:30pm Fridays 11:15am 2:00pm I look forward to meeting you! Thank you. - John John and I are evolving his work with us. We have spent hours this week roaming around, familiarizing him with out architecture and residents, looking at the best places for him to set up shop to help you with technological boosts of one kind and another. He is VERY GOOD at helping with your cell phones! He worked out a kink or two for me in very short order. He also likes to play games and is really ready to do just about anything you d like to have him do for and/or with you. Be sure to greet him when you see him! Please remember to drop by to share in my birthday again this year, on Sunday, the 10th of June, Open House, from 3-5 in the afternoon at my home, 83 Nevada Oval. Please come and bring your family! Hoist a glass to launch me into another year, and to enjoy each other s company. And a big THANK YOU to all twenty-one of you who attended last Sunday s session with guest speaker Ann Tracy. She was delighted with the truly outstanding participation- especially with Mary Lue s reading of her personal musing- and she is willing to return to provide assistance as you find your way into the Joys of Writing. Just let me know and I ll speak with Ann and let you know when she ll be here. Thanks again for your eager participation. Cheers! Sally Sears- Mack June 13th Movie Night- The Hundred-Foot Journey Synopsis- Hassan Kadam (Manish Dayal) is an extraordinarily talented and largely self-taught culinary novice. When he and his family are displaced from their native India and settle in a quaint French village, they decide to open an Indian eatery. However, Madame Mallory (Helen Mirren), the proprietress of an acclaimed restaurant just 100 feet away, strongly objects. War erupts between the two establishments, until Mallory recognizes Kadam's impressive epicurean gifts and takes him under her wing. Louise Dionne was here on Tuesday to perform for us! She was lovely to listen to.

4 My Corvette Stories: A Personal Reminisce First of all, it was not my corvette, at the time I was driving a small sunbeam sports car. I was often teased by friends who said I was driving a mixer, as there was an electric mixer called a sunbeam at that time. The corvette sting ray entered my life at the same time Robert Gould did. I was a librarian at the Owego, N.Y. middle school. I was Miss Cunningham back then, and it seems as if everyone in Owego wanted to change that. I went out on a lot of blind dates fixed up for me. That included the group at the Exxon station where I got gas and had my car serviced. They fixed me up with a college professor who was a frequent customer at their station also. None of these dates amounted to anything until a friend named Ludeen said a friend of her husband was coming to the Owego IBM plant. That s where her husband was worked, so we were invited for dinner. Ludeen had her husband pick me up, so the new guy would have to take me home. Well, Robert arrived driving this nice new corvette sting ray, so I was pleased to think I would have a ride in it. The dinner was enjoyable and Robert seemed like a good guy. I had just returned from a trip to Europe, and probably talked a lot about the trip and no one seemed to mind. I got a nice ride from him in that cool car, and when he took me home, Robert asked me for a date the next night. The first of all my blind dates that had a #2 date. We dated steadily until the middle of November. It was December at the time the instrument unit for the Big Saturn Rocket that would fly the astronauts to the moon, and Robert was on the IBM team sent to Florida. Well our dating turned into letter writing. We wrote each other every day, I have two shoeboxes of letters to prove that. But come July we were married and I now lived in Cocoa Beach in Florida. Robert had a long commute to work and he drove my sunbeam because it used less gas. That left the corvette home for me to drive on exciting trips like going grocery shopping (more about that later). Robert was a laid back, easy going guy. But I a found out he could have a temper. We had gone to the movies, and when we got to the car right after the movie, all 4 of the hub caps were gone! Robert had a fit! This was his pride and joy, and the hub caps were gone. Well he replaced them and thought when the corvette was parked in a public place, the hubcaps went into the locked trunk. Now for my favorite corvette story. It is about going grocery shopping. It was in the Fall, and I was pregnant, very pregnant. My due date was coming up soon. I was happily driving to the grocery store, I was younger then and had a full head of red hair blowing in the breeze with the top down. After a bit, I noticed that a car was following right on my tail. Not too surprising, it was a hot car after all. The guys in car passed me giving me and the car a full look, then dropped behind me again. I got to the grocery store parking lot, I parked and was about to get out of the car when I noticed the guys were slowly driving to me beside the corvette. I decided to have some fun and waited until they were next to me. I opened my door and as gracefully as possible as a very pregnant woman stood up. The look on the faces of those guys was priceless. One look at my huge belly, and those guys left the parking lot at light speed! It made my day. I have chuckled about that for years, and now I have shared it with you. I hope you enjoyed it. ~ Mary Lue - the car nut

Sam, a therapy dog in training was here on Tuesday. He was so sweet and loved meeting those of you who came to visit. Thank you Love on a Leash for visiting Lake Forest! Please be sure you remove all Kleenex from your bedding before it goes to the wash. This makes a terrible mess for the RAs when they are left behind. Thank you! I greatly appreciate those who came, especially with such short notice.
