1 Home Journal May 4th, 2018 Hello Everyone I hope this week s issue of the Home Journal finds you well. I like to review the protocol for accessing maintenance support after office hours and on the weekends/holidays on occasion. Seems like now is a good time to do just that: Simply call the main office line; and you will be greeted by our answering service. Tell them your name, address (including your apartment or duplex number) and state the maintenance related issue you are experiencing. The answering service representative will alert the Maintenance Director and he will contact you. Any health related issues can be addressed by dialing or activating your Life-Net button. A big thank you goes out to Dr. Bodrogi for her presentation on creative aging two Sundays ago. Her information was certainly relevant and thought provoking. I hope to have her return from time to time and learn from her expertise. I want to also thank Sally for organizing and facilitating the terrific opportunity. A gentle reminder for all of us: please return any dinnerware that is taken home to the kitchen on the following day. This allows us to work with an adequate amount of plates, bowls, glasses, and utensils. While we have extras, it is surprising how quickly the supply can be depleted. Bread of the week PRALINE PECAN BABKA. Developed in the early 19 th century in New Orleans, pralines are creamy, cookie-size candies made of brown sugar, butter, and pecans. This recipe commemorates the confection s sweet nuttiness and melt-in-your-mouth magic with a pillowy pecan-laden babka. Place your order with Natasha if you want to indulge! Welcome to our community, John M. and Sassy. I hope you acclimate well and are already enjoying your new home. It is a pleasure to have you as a neighbor. It looks like groundbreaking for the new duplexes is going to occur next Wednesday. I want to thank our Board of Directors, in particular the Expansion Committee members, for all of their guidance and support throughout this process. ~ Kevin Maureen is on call May 7th Our Lake Forest Website ForestSeniorCommunity

3 Our Lake Forest Residents News, Comments, Etc... I sat here wondering what to write for my column, and looked through a folder of odds and ends of things I had collected, as well as a lot of things other people had given me. So this column is got to be bits and pieces. I hope you enjoy them! A word about exercise- I really think that tossing and turning at night should be counted as exercise. A word about aging- Old age is golden or so I ve heard said, but sometimes I wonder, as I crawl into bed with my ears in a drawer, my teeth in a cup, my glasses on the table until I get up. As sleep dims my vision, I say to myself - Is there anything else I should lay on a shelf? My get up and go has got up and went. The reason I know my youth is all spent. But in spite of it all, I m able to grin and think of the places my get go has been. Don t let aging get you down, it s too hard to get back up. A conversation between a large dog and a cat. Cat to dog okay Ralph...let me splain it to you again, you re big and I m a cat so that makes me the boss. Got it? Note: I m a cat person so I get it. Words from a cartoon of a woman at a table in a restaurant with her legs crossed showing a lot of leg. Her husband, waving wildly at a waiter says For crying out loud Barbara, just leave it to me to get the waiter s attention! Here is a curse to put on someone who really annoys you- may the fleas of a thousand camels infest the crotch of the person who screws up your day and may their arms be too short to scratch! Keep smiling- Mary Lue

4 Spring has finally arrived at Lake Forest. Thank you Kevin for helping us obtain this amazing view that we get to enjoy every day! Fun Facts One of the greatest soldiers in history, Alexander the Great, was tutored by the greatest thinker of all time, Aristotle. Wedding cake was originally thrown at the bride & groom, instead of eaten by them. One plain milk chocolate candy bar has more protein than a banana I am. is the shortest complete sentence in the English language. Please remember to return your dishes to the kitchen. Thank you! ~ Natasha Bread of the week PRALINE PECAN BABKA. Developed in the early 19 th century in New Orleans, pralines are creamy, cookie-size candies made of brown sugar, butter, and pecans. This recipe commemorates the confection s sweet nuttiness and melt-in-your-mouth magic with a pillowy pecan-laden babka. Please talk to Natasha if you would like to order some! Our Earth day herbs are on week 2 and they re looking great!

A very big thank you to those who attended the Historical Association s presentation on John McKenna s photography of downtown Plattsburgh s architecture. They will be back on the 15th of this month to present information on Redford Glass. I hope to see you there! Another big thank you to those who attended the Birthday Celebration! I have now learned that taking cake orders is a weakness of mine and will come prepared next time with a pen & notepad. I appreciate everyone s patience & kindness for my 1st birthday celebration on Sunday. Happy Birthday again to our April ladies, Bea, Judy G. & Laura! ~ Vicki
