1 Home Journal January 11, 2019 Hello, Everyone Some of you may have noticed a gray computer-like machine that is now located in the library. This is a magnifying device that can be used for books and other printed material. Apparently, it was donated quite some time ago and was recently unearthed from the basement. It is there for your convenience and I hope it proves to be useful. Just an FYI, a group from the Senior Scholars program will be utilizing the library from 9:30am to 12:00pm on Thursdays, beginning 1/24/19 and concluding on 2/28/19. Occasionally, weekly menu selection forms are submitted without a name. Please be sure to write your name on the form so that we know who the meals are for. If the name is missing, the meal will be served to me as a default not really but wouldn t that be neat?! In addition to the ice-tea and V-8 juice options that are offered with dinner and brunch, we will now be offering cranberry juice. Please take a moment to review the attached information regarding the associated health benefits of cranberry juice consumption thank you, Natasha! I recently received an anonymous note that read, Who changed the library put it back the way it was. I believe what the commenter must be referring to is the re-arrangement of the sofa, two chairs and several end-tables. The idea behind the change was resident driven and we ve received quite a bit of positive feed-back thus far. It seems to open-up the room and maintains the welcoming character of the space. However, I really do understand, change can be difficult. If the arrangement of the furniture is now somehow inhibiting the functionality of the library, please contact me so that we can discuss a resolution. ~ Kevin Danielle is on call January 14th Our Lake Forest Website ForestSeniorCommunity

3 Our Lake Forest Residents News, Comments, Etc... Here is a sports related joke for your amusement. Enjoy! Jose had lived in San Juan all his life. He had one desire to see Yankee stadium. He loved the Yankees and saved until he could afford an airline ticket to New York during baseball season. He arrived in New York, only to find out that the game was sold out. His disappointment and story touched the manager s heart and he agreed to let Jose sit in the bleachers under the flagpole. Upon returning to San Juan, all of his friends were eager to hear about his adventure. How was the trip?, How was the game?, How were the New Yorkers?, they all asked. Jose raved about how the trip was smooth, the game was fabulous, and they asked me Jose can you see! - Mary Lue Thank you to Vihan Wickramasinghe, for his beautiful performance on Monday. It was a pleasure to have him here for the first time. Do you know how to play mah jongg? Or do you want to learn how to play? If so, please visit us on Thursdays at 1pm in the activity room. To those already playing Mah Jongg, the new cards can now be ordered. The standard sized card is $8.00, and the large print card is $9.00. Please let us know if you want us to bill your account, or make a check out to The National Mah Jongg League, INC. and give it to Vicki by Friday, January 25th. Thank you! Thank you so much to Jim Hardman, from the Alzheimer s Association, for his presentation on Monday. Jim will be back on Monday, February 4th, at 10am, to present the next course in his series on Alzheimer s. Please save the date!
4 The Sweet Adelines are preparing for their singing valentines. A notice has been put on the board for anyone interested. They have offered Lake Forest a reduced rate of $40, which includes two love songs, a stuffed animal, a digital picture, and Lake Shore chocolates. Please call to order a surprise for your sweetie! Best wishes to Dorothy G.! We re going to miss you! Dawn s puppies, Rose & Riley, came to see us! and needless to say, it made Polly very happy! A NOTE FROM MAINTENANCE- For your safety during the winter months, please remember to keep the front end of your car off of the sidewalk. This will allow for us to keep the sidewalks clean in a timely manner, with less ice buildup. Also, please watch out for ice when there is a light dusting of snow. ~ Maintenance
