1 Welcome To The Welcome Stranger! An Dynnergh Stranjer A gas Dynnergh! The Welcome Stranger fish and chip restaurant is a converted chapel, built in It has been a fish and chip restaurant for the last 60 plus years. Lester and Carol have owned and run the restaurant since Carol s parents, Pete and Bet have owned fish and chip shops since 1965, starting off with a converted horse box which had a coal fire range. Over the years they owned shops in Plymouth, St Austell and Indian Queens. When they retired in 1996, Lester and Carol took over their restaurant (The Port and Starboard) and carried on the family business. Carol s dad Pete, who is now in his 80 s is still active in this restaurant today, coming to work on a Friday morning to cut the fish, have some lunch and then do the dishes during the lunch service. Lester and Carol s son Andrew has worked in the restaurant since they took over, and since December 2011 has learnt to fry and run the restaurant. The Welcome Stranger has gained the NFFF Fish and Chip Quality award continually through the years and was awarded in the top 12 Fish and Chip Restaurants in Great Britain 2015 by Seafish. All of our fish is MSC Certified, which means it all comes from sustainable sources. Most of our main ingredients are locally sourced from Cornwall.
