1 FRESH Fresh Innovation In the convenience channel, the Fresh category and innovation go hand-in-hand. John Roach, our Vice President of Merchandising, tells us that robust growth in this category, paired with customers who are looking to purchase fresher, healthier, on-the-go items, is causing manufacturers to sit up and take notice. They recognize the opportunity in Fresh and they re working diligently to provide new products, new flavors and even new product forms to answer the call. To take advantage of the many opportunities this category provides, we at Eby-Brown encourage you to make a strong commitment to Fresh, as many in the industry have done. Between 2014 and 2015, the average store sales grew from $15,666 to an impressive $19,418. To achieve results similar to these, your commitment should include positioning the Fresh set in a prominent location within your store, and even offering multiple locations if you have the available space. In addition, utilize signage throughout the store to point customers in the right direction and be sure that your signage is creative, descriptive and eye-catching. Finally, Roach tells us that it s key to offer a variety of products to really show that you re in the business of Fresh. And speaking of Fresh products, there are segments that are showing great innovation and potential and we re excited to offer you some updates and changes in the category. But first let s start with a product line you know and trust Wakefield Sandwiches. In general, sandwiches continue to make up the highest percentage of total dollar sales for all prepared foods sold in convenience, and our proprietary line of Wakefield sandwiches can t be beat. Wakefield items are finely crafted with the freshest ingredients. Your choice of wedge sandwiches, 6-inch subs and foot long subs arrive fresh with at least fourteen days dating, and we also offer a variety of complimentary wraps and sandwiches that arrive frozen and can be displayed refrigerated for seven days or heated and sold in a hotto-go warmer. The frozen items are the highest quality and give you the flexibility to enjoy an extended shelf life and the benefit of stocking product from frozen as needed. A new and innovative product, the Wakefield Parfait, introduces our 4 Category Insights

2 next Fresh segment, Yogurt. These new 8.5 oz parfaits are made with low fat yogurt, low fat granola and strawberry or blueberry fruit mix. They carry the trusted Wakefield brand name and provide a great opportunity to trade the customer up from a smaller, lower priced yogurt option. Overall, yogurt continues to be important in the Fresh set with 66% of U.S. adults purchasing spoonable yogurt and a growing 30% purchasing yogurt drinks. Accord- Category Insights 5

3 FRESH ing to Roach, this growth in yogurt drinks has led to a change in our offering. He says, We re adding yogurt drinks to our set for the first time ever because we believe this is a growth area with lots of potential. This includes the new Drink Chobani beverages, which are smooth and creamy Greek yogurt drinks, as well as the Oikos nonfat yogurt drinks from Dannon. Another new item in our yogurt segment is the GoGo Squeeze Yogurtz, which comes in a fun, easy to open pouch and is popular with kids. In addition, this cutting-edge product offers an extended shelf life. However, he cautions that it s still important to offer the mainstay cup yogurt items from Dannon and Chobani. This includes the new Dannon Whole Milk Yogurt and Dannon Oikos Triple Zero Greek Yogurt. Lastly, Roach tells us that even the merchandising for yogurt is getting a fresh, new look with the introduction of 6 count packs for the new Dannon items versus the count packs. We re making this change in support of your concerns regarding yogurt s shelf life, and we hope you ll be pleased with the new offering. Snacking cheeses are another growing segment in Fresh and these items fit right in with the healthy, grab-and-go needs of consumers. The segment has seen an average growth rate of 6.2% over the last three years and shows no sign of slowing down. There are a couple of key new items in the set to point out. One is the new Kraft Smoky Bacon Cheddar Big Cheese Snack, a delicious combination and a punch of protein in a 2 oz stick. The other is Philadelphia Bagel Chips and Cream Cheese Dip, a perfectly portioned snack that you can eat at home or on the go. Finally, don t forget meal combos like Lunchables and P3, which also do a great job of providing an on-the-go, fulfilling Fresh experience. And innovation has found its way into this segment too! The new Hillshire Snacking Small Plates feature premium ingredients such as Italian salami and gouda cheese and can appeal to your more discerning Fresh customer. For your fresh fruits and vegetables, we offer the Crisp Acres program, which has two areas of focus whole fruits and an expanded fresh offering. Whole fruits include apples, oranges, bananas, lemons and limes while the expanded offering provides cut fruits and vegetables, salad bowls and snack trays. If you are new to the Fresh category, keep in mind that it can take 30 to 90 days to get the necessary foot traffic and repeat sales to make your Fresh set profitable. However, your persistence and patience will pay off as your sales and turns increase and your store becomes a Fresh destination. 6 Category Insights

4 You will see a great deal more innovation in the Fresh category than in some others. The manufacturers see opportunity and are going after this market. The key to success for these items will be proper handling and execution. The Crisp Acres program includes product handling guides as well as operations guides to assist with increasing sales and decreasing spoils. Also, as part of the Fresh Offerings Program, we will ship in each units of measure on items with a short shelf life to reduce waste at retail and provide the freshest product possible. Our process includes safeguards and checkpoints during product receipt, storage and transportation to your store. We also have a dedicated fleet of tri-temp trailers to ensure product quality and safety from our door to yours.
