In acknowledging this creed at Fairview, the Board of Directors, along with the entire staff, place an emphasis on providing a safe, caring, friendly, and innovative atmosphere where each resident s dignity, privacy, and personal needs are respected. In partnership with the residents, their families, and the staff, we are enhancing and improving the quality of life for our residents. Intergenerational programs with our child day care center, our restaurant (the Bistro), and the fine dining program are but a few of the many innovations that continue to put Fairview in a trend-setting position. We salute all those hardworking individuals who continually seek new challenges to make Fairview such an extraordinary facility. Residents of Fairview enjoy a fine dining experience in the first floor dining room. A special lunch is served on china and in a non-institutional atmosphere five days a week. Staff escort residents to and from their rooms to the dining room. This extra personal care has been very well received and is one more attempt to enhance the daily lives of our residents. 2 Point O View The News of the Fairview Family FAIRVIEW RECEIVES $10,000 GRANT FROM STATE OF CONNECTICUT Page 2 center. Pictured are (L-R): Rebecca Cruelles, director of the child development center, children from the center, Shelly Coon-Bernier, manager of the Liberty Bank Groton Office, Dick Woodworth, a resident of Fairview, Moneesha Cotton, personal banker at Liberty Bank, and Tomi Stanley, director of recreation at Fairview. LONGTIME STONINGTON LODGE #26 I.O.O.F. MEMBER CITES FAIRVIEW REHABILITATION GYM AND STAFF A $10,000 grant received from the State of Connecticut will be used to upgrade the security system at Fairview s child development center. Seven fixed cameras on the interior of the building, three outdoor cameras with three call boxes for the playgrounds, a video digital recorder and one 32 LCD monitor for all cameras will be installed as part of this project. A new desktop computer system will also be purchased for the center director to upgrade her capability to monitor the new security system. The Fairview Child Development Center opened in 2001 as a benefit for employees who needed daycare for their children. The center is licensed for 44 children ranging in age from 6 weeks to 6 years. Approximately 25% are children of employees with the remainder coming from the local community. The center is accredited by NAEYC, the National Association for the Education of Young Children. FAIRVIEW RECEIVES LIBERTY BANK GRANT... Fairview was the recent recipient of a $1,500 grant from the Liberty Bank Foundation. This grant will be used to expand the existing intergenerational program already in place. This will include field trips, enrichment activities such as visiting storytellers and musicians, and new resource material on intergenerational activities. The intergenerational program has been of great benefit to our nursing home residents and a wonderful learning experience for our children at the child development Arthur Swan is a Mystic resident who can be found any morning at the local Tim Horton s coffee shop having a cup of Joe with the boys, his friends. He used to walk to the shop; however, as arthritis took its toll on his knee, he began to use a cane and finally a motorized scooter. Eventually, he decided to have a knee replacement. While visiting residents at Fairview he stopped into the Rehabilitation Department to see if we could meet his post-surgical needs. After seeing the 1,700 SF facility complete with recumbent bike, and speaking with the staff who assured him that his rehabilitation needs would be met, he decided that Fairview would be his facility of choice. Art spent six days at the Westerly Hospital following some unforeseen medical complications. He arrived at Fairview with only 45 degrees of knee flexion (bend); in order to sit comfortably you need to have 90-degree flexion. He was also experiencing pain that was limiting his tolerance for the therapy he needed to achieve his goal to return home. The medical staff quickly got his pain under control so he could begin his rehabilitation. Art arrived at Fairview needing assistance to walk with a walker... he went home with the needed 90-degree range of motion and was able to use a cane independently. On a recent visit to Fairview, I noticed he was walking with no assistance at all. I asked how he was doing and he said, You did a great job and I d certainly highly recommend Fairview to anyone who needs short-term rehabilitation after surgery. Jane Novak Rehabilitation Services Manager

6 Point O View The News of the Fairview Family What s So Odd About Helping Others? The Grand Lodge of Connecticut I.O.O.F. has developed paper bags for distribution to all lodges with information about the Odd Fellows along with the phrase, "What's so odd about helping others?" Staff members at Fairview have filled several bags with food that has been donated to the Town of Groton Food Locker. Pictured is Director of Development at Fairview, David Brown, getting ready to make a delivery. Anyone interested in obtaining empty bags can contact Grand Secretary, Warren Smith, at Page 6 Fairview Car Raffle Everyone's a Winner! The second annual car raffle was another great success this year. Four-hundred and ninety-two tickets were sold for a net profit of just over $16,600. All proceeds are being used to help offset the cost of the just completed renovation project. This year's winner of the 2007 Honda S2000 was Jamie Scanlon who bought the last two tickets just before the drawing! Jamie sold the car to Fairview employee Gail Breslin. He also made a very generous $1,000 contribution to Fairview as well. We are very grateful to everyone who purchased a ticket (see Development Report) and helped us to eclipse last year's totals in ticket sales and net profit. See pictures below. DO YOU HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS? There is a suggestion box located in the Fairview lobby. If you have a suggestion regarding any aspect of Fairview s operation please feel free to drop it in our Suggestion Mailbox. We want to hear from you! Gail Breslin - New Owner!
