2 Directors Corner As I write the plants around the building are sprouting. And, it is snowing. Why do I feel like I am writing the November column? Oh yeah, it s the weather!! Sooner or later it will warm up and we will be sprucing up the grounds around the Center. We had some students in recently from Crossroads Academy for their annual community service. When I set it up with them in early March I spoke to them about some outside yardwork. Well, you know how that did not end up. Now, I have some students scheduled for an afternoon the first week of May. I talked to their school about some yardwork. Could I be jinxing our weather? However, we have had our first night opening in order to honor our volunteers. That means among other things that winter is definitely over, and spring has sprung. Our next night opening, later this month, is for Older Americans Night. This is a chance to celebrate the passage by Congress, of the Older Americans Act, which helps to fund our meals program. And later in June we send out our first road trip to the Cog Railway at Mount Washington. This trip is back again this year by request, as our first time there last year was very well received. As we head into the warmer days I intend to continue to work on some building improvements which could cause some temporary inconveniences. Among other things I would like to have the flooring in both restrooms replaced and I am awaiting an estimate on replacement of the sinks as well. These are original equipment dating back to 1980 when the Center opened. We have some other systems work to be done as well, particularly related to energy consumption and conservation efforts. I have been informed that only one person inquired about the April Fools prank in our last newsletter. Indeed that was a disappointment, but we have resolved to be even more creative next year! Of course it will always be difficult to top the Ohio State Marching Band joke of two years ago, but rest assured we will do our best next year. The good weather is on its way, so come on down and enjoy a meal and some good company. Len Brown Executive Director In case you were wondering why the triangle refused to be friends with the circle: it just seemed pointless. Help Needed: Home-Delivered Meal Drivers We need substitute drivers for all of our meal routes (Hartford-Wilder, White River Jct., Norwich, Quechee, Thetford). Meals are picked up at the Center around 10:5 AM, Monday through Friday. The number of meals/stops varies by route. Most routes take an hour or less; Thetford takes longer because of the distance. Norwich and Thetford drivers do not return to the Center at the end of their route. A reliable vehicle is a must. Before going solo on a route, new drivers go out once or twice with an experienced driver. All drivers must pass a criminal background check. Wait Staff: There is no order taking or carrying of heavy trays. Wait staff arrive around 11:30 AM to distribute water pitchers, bread baskets, butter and other condiments to the tables, and pour coffee, tea or milk before serving salads and the main course. Meals are plated in the kitchen and carried to the tables by wait staff. Wait staff clear the dishes between courses and after the meal, then wipe off the tables. Lunch is usually over no later than 12:5. Most wait staff volunteers serve one or two days a week, depending on their desire and availability. If you are interested in volunteering or in finding out more about volunteering, call Regina at (802) , Mon-Thurs between 8 am and 3 pm, or stop in at the Center.

They were originally founded to sing for Dartmouth Alumni, as the students of the day would have gone their way by the second week of June. Their members hail from many universities and colleges from all across the country. Many members are also residents of Kendal. Being an all male troupe had become a challenge with membership so within the past few years women have joined the tenor section and added a bit more collective sound to this solid group of men! They enjoy singing and look forward to seeing you tap your toes, sing along or just take a trip down memory lane.
