You do not have to come for dinner if all you want to do is play Bingo, but you must here in time to purchase your card(s) before 6:00PM. Half of the proceeds of the sale of cards benefits Bugbee Senior Center; the other half is divided into prizes. Baby Boomer Expectations of Long-Term Supports and Services Jill Zambon of Grand Canyon University is conducting research into the expectations of Baby Boomers as they plan for long-term supports and services, in regard to their social group or formal care providers, their funding sources and their living arrangements. She will visit the Center on Tuesday, July 4th, to give an overview of the study and she will be looking for a few volunteer participants to be interviewed individually at a later date. She is trying to learn what people are looking for as they grow older and who they look to for help and support. She will be gathering information, not offering services. She is conducting the same research at Upper Valley Senior Center in Lebanon, NH.

2 Directors Corner out those lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer, those days of soda and pretzels and beer. My sincere apologies to Nat King Cole, wherever he may be. Our newsletter this month is our summer version, covering July and August. A few years ago we did one newsletter for the summer and for the most part it was well received so we thought we would continue to do it each year. For May/June, out of necessity, we did a two monther and so far only a few folks have inquired about their June menus so Do not throw this one away until the end of August! We are in need of volunteer assistance if you are inclined and able. We particularly need volunteer meal delivery drivers for routes here in Hartford, but also our Norwich and Thetford routes. This is a chance to make a difference in an older person s life, not only by delivering a daily meal, but also making a human connection with someone unable to get out and about the community. Even if you are only able to commit to being an occasional substitute, you will be a big help to our agency and the folks we serve. And, you will probably find it to be a rewarding experience. Let me or Regina Burg know if you can help, or have an interest in other volunteer opportunities. On a different but important note, I have been working on some building improvements and have set in motion a floor replacement for our two restrooms. This will involve some inconvenience for a couple of days but we can do it without closing the facility. I hope folks will be aware of the need for some caution and courtesy to each other and the workers who will be moving around and about. We do NOT have any space as of now on our upcoming trips and actually have some waiting lists which are quite long in some cases. ERGO, if you signed up and learn that you cannot go please let us know as soon as possible so we can give someone else a shot at going!! And, if you have signed up and are going with some friends, it would be very helpful to us and our parking situation if you carpooled. We also have planned two night openings which are always sign up type of meals so be attentive to those dates and times elsewhere in this edition of our bulletin. Weather permitting we will cook outside and the meal will be followed by BINGO. Enjoy the fine weather and as always, we look forward to seeing you here. Len Brown Help Needed: Home-Delivered Meal Drivers We need drivers for our meal routes in Quechee and White River Jct. Meals are picked up at the Center around 10:45 AM, Monday through Friday. The number of meals/stops varies by route and day. Before going solo on a route, new drivers go out once or twice with an experienced driver. All drivers must pass a criminal background check. Bread Pick-Up We need drivers who would be willing to pick up day old bread on a substitute basis. The driver picks up empty boxes at the Center at approximately :00 AM, then picks up bread at the Miracle Mile Price Chopper on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Wait Staff: There is no order taking or carrying of heavy trays. Wait staff arrive around 11:30 AM to distribute water pitchers, bread baskets, butter and other condiments to the tables, and pour coffee, tea or milk before serving salads and the main course. Meals are plated in the kitchen and carried to the tables by wait staff. Wait staff clear the dishes between courses and after the meal, then wipe off the tables. Lunch is usually over no later than 1:45. Most wait staff volunteers serve one or two days a week, depending on their desire and availability. If you are interested in volunteering or in finding out more about volunteering, call Regina at (80) 5-068, Mon-Thurs between 8 am and 3 pm, or stop in at the Center.
