2 Directors Corner This month we have our first night opening of the year on April 20th. This is our annual Volunteer Recognition Dinner to honor those among us who give of their time to help us operate all of our programs. The value of our volunteer s time calculated according to IRS rules comes in close to $85,000.This is a significant increase from our prior year, by close to $15,000. Perhaps it is because folks are entering their time more accurately, or there is an actual increase in donated time. No matter, this represents an important contribution to our operation. We could not possibly match that value if we had to compensate people to provide this service. However, in my mind the value is significantly greater, as IRS uses minimum wage rates for the time people donate to us. No one, no how, no way is worth that princely sum. In my mind the true value is at least twice the IRS amount and probably even more!! On behalf of all of us here Bugbee please accept my heartfelt thank you to all our volunteers for everything you do for us. It is trip season starting this month. Our first trip goes out April 7 th to Holyoke Massachusetts for a luncheon and show. There are still seats available for this trip. This year we are experiencing an interesting phenomenon. It seems that our final trip of the year, The Mystery Trip, is booked solid already. Go figure!! Folks are signing up for the trip to the unknown while our other trips with disclosed venues still have space. So, I had the idea that in 2017 we would hide the location of all of our trips. Then we would sign people up as always but if one trip was not full we would move sign ups from a full trip to that trip!! No one would know any differently since they just signed up for a trip. :-{) Brilliant me thinks, but I await feedback on this idea as we have a whole year to plan. On a housekeeping note, I want to remind folks that we appreciate donations of medical equipment, however leaving it outside on weekends or at night does create some problems for us. Not only can the items get wet, or iced up, but you know how neighborhood cats can be!! We have had to toss out some items left outside which I am sure would be a disappointment to the donors. Finally, as the warm weather moves in we will be doing our annual sprucing up of the building perimeter. If you have an interest in helping out, do let me know either by stopping in or calling me.. Len Brown Executive Director Presidential Candidate Debate Night Eugene v. Debs/William Lemke/Aaron Watkins/Silas C. Swallow Bugbee Senior Center April 31, :00 PM Just in case the current list of Presidential hopefuls don t seem to fit your idea of the person you would like to see occupying the White House, we have invited some lesser known independent candidates to our own Candidate Debate Night. Seating will be on a first come, first served basis. Please carpool as parking will be extremely limited as half of the parking lot will be reserved for satellite trucks and other media vehicles.
