4 JULY RESIDENT OF THE MONTH BLANCHE HOMIRE Birthdate: November 9, 1927 Children: 5 girls and 1 boy Blanche was born and raised on a farm in Mt. Auburn, Iowa. She married Lloyd Homire in September of Blanche and Lloyd lived on a farm in Keystone, Iowa for 15 years. In 1960 they moved to Hiawatha, Iowa. Lloyd ran a service station in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Blanche was the bookkeeper. She and her husband loved to go fishing. Blanche is known for her pies. She would make 4 or 5 a week. She loves spending time with her family. She spoiled her children and now they spoil Blanche. 8 JUNE GARDEN PARTY FUN!!!! IT'S the FOURTH OF JULY! Let's All Celebrate Together The tradition of patriotic celebration became more widespread after the War of 1812, in which the United States again faced Great Britain. In 1870, the U.S. Congress made July 4th a federal holiday; in 1941, the provision was expanded to grant a paid holiday to all federal employees. Over the years, the political importance of the holiday would decline, but Independence Day remained an important national holiday and a symbol of patriotism. Today, communities across the nation mark this major midsummer holiday with parades, picnics, outdoor barbecues, fireworks, and family get-togethers. The most common symbol of the holiday is the American flag, and a common musical accompaniment is "The Star-Spangled Banner," the national anthem of the United States. GOD BLESS AMERICA!
