PATRICK S DAY FRIDAY, MARCH 17TH WEAR GREEN St. Patrick s Day was first celebrated in America in 1737, organized by the charitable Irish Society of Boston, including a feast and religious service. This holiday is celebrated every year on March 17th, honoring the Irish patron saint, St. Patrick. People all over the world celebrate St. Patrick s Day, especially those in large Irish communities. Cities that hold large parades are: Boston, New York, Philadelphia, New Orleans, Savannah, and other cities worldwide. There are many legends associated with St. Patrick. The symbol of the shamrock used for St. Patrick s Day comes from the story of St. Patrick using the shamrock to illustrate the Holy Trinity. Early celebrations continued after the charitable Irish Society of Boston. In New York, the first celebration took place as a small gathering at the house of an Irish protestant. St. Patrick s Day parades started in New York in 1762 by a small group of Irish soldiers in the Boston military. Parades and wearing green have always been a traditional part of St. Patrick s Day Celebrations. Chicago dyes its river green for the festivities. The White House fountain is also dyed green. In Seattle, the parade routes are painted in green. Observers are supposed to wear green or else risk being pinched. Parade floats and decorations feature the color green. So...to all of you- Have a HAPPY St. Patrick s Day! 6 MARCH 2018 EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH St. Joseph's Day MONDAY, MARCH 19TH WEAR RED The Feast of St. Joseph's Day on March 19th is in Western Christianity, the principal feast day of St. Joseph, spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary. He is also the father of Jesus of Nazareth. It has the rank of a solemnity in the Roman Catholic Church. It is a feast or festival in the Lutheran Church. HIAWATHA CARE CENTER EMPLOYEE MORALE TEAM IS PROUD TO ANNOUNCE: STEFANIE NISSEN, CERTIFIED NURSE AIDE St. Joseph's Day is the Patronal Feast Day for Poland, as well as for Canada, for persons named Joseph, Josephine, etc., for religious institutions, schools and parishes bearing his name, and for carpenters. FAMILIES If your family member has a physician who DOES NOT come to HCC to see them, you will need to schedule appointments to be seen twice a year. THIS IS A REGULATION FROM THE STATE! 8 GROUNDHOG DAY WINNERS MARCH RESIDENT OF THE MONTH EILEEN BAIRD Birthdate: June 23, 1930 Children: 3 Step children, Rob, Kathy & Elizabeth Grandchildren: Maddie, Sean & Jessie Eileen grew up in Waukon, Iowa and lived there until 8th grade when her family made a move to Cedar Rapids. She then attended and graduated from McKinley High School. Eileen was raised with four sisters and three brothers. She was married to Robert Baird, who passed away in Eileen worked for Heuer Publishing for 62 years until she retired following her stroke. Some of Eileen s hobbies include singing and collecting recipes that she would cut out of magazines and place on a card. During the Flood of 2008 Eileen lost her home. She then moved to Hiawatha Care Center. We are glad that you are here and a part of the Hiawatha Care Center Family! CONGRATULATIONS EILEEN! Ohhhhhhhhh...nooooooooooo THE GROUNDHOG.
