1 A warm welcome to all our participants. We are waiting for your arrival with great excitement. Here are some instructions for you to find your way around. Arriving at METU The cheapest way to arrive to METU from Ankara airport (Esenboğa airport) is to pick up a drive with one of the shuttle buses run by Belko Air or Havaş. You will see these buses parked just outside the Arrivals exit. Ask to get out at ASTİ Otogar. This is the central bus station in Ankara and it is the last stop on this line. From ASTİ take a taxi to METU campus. Accommodation All your accommodation booked through our website is located within the METU campus. Entering the campus The entrances to METU campus are guarded. We will provide the guards with a list of participants for the conference. The guard will ask for your name and purpose of visit. Please show to him your identity/passport, tell him that you are coming for ICAZ 2018 conference (Turkish: ICAZ 2018 kongresine katılıyorum) and be patient if he/she wants to check the list of participants to find your name there. After you receive your conference badge, please carry it with you, together with your identity card or passport, when going out and returning back to the campus. You will be asked to show these two documents to enter the campus again. It will not be a big problem if you forget your badge but it will delay checking at the gates. The campus has 9 entrances; all will have lists with your names. The central entrance is A1 gate (Main gate Turkish: ODTÜ A1, Ana kapı-a1 Kapısı), located on Eskisehir road. Closest to dormitories is A4 (Yüzüncüyıl kapısı). For Aysel Sabuncu you can enter either from two gates located on the Bilkent road (A7 and Bilkent Kapısı) as well as the A1 gate. Addresses (what to say or show to your taxi driver) The name of METU in Turkish is ODTÜ (Orta Doğu Teknik Üniversitesi) The street address for METU campus is: ODTÜ, Üniversiteler Mah., Dumlupınar Blv.No:1.

2 Nevertheless, you will not need to use the above address. Just say/show to your taxi driver one of the following: KE1 = ODTÜ kampüsü, Öğrenci Konukevi 1, A4 (Yüzüncüyıl kapısı) kapısına yakın, Sunshine kafenin hemen arkasında. This in English means: METU campus, Students Konukevi 1, close to A4 gate ((Yüzüncüyıl gate), immediately behind of the Sunshine café. KE2 = ODTÜ kampüsü, Öğrenci Konukevi 2, A4 (Yüzüncüyıl kapısı) kapısına yakın Sunshine kafe den sonra. This in English means: METU campus, Students Konukevi 1, close to A4 gate ((Yüzüncüyıl gate), after the Sunshine café. OGV = ODTÜ kampüsü, ODTÜ Geliştirme Vakfı Özel Öğrenci Konuk Evi, A4 (Yüzüncüyıl kapısı) kapısına yakın, Sunshine kafeden sonra, 6nci yurdun yakınında. This in English means: METU campus, ODTÜ Geliştirme Vakfı Özel Öğrenci Konuk Evi, close to A4 gate (Yüzüncüyıl gate), after the Sunshine café, close to 6 th dormitory.. ASYM = ODTÜ kampüsü, Aysel Sabuncu Yaşam Merkezi. This in English means: METU campus, Aysel Sabuncu Yaşam Merkezi. IMPORTANT NOTE: If you have booked a room for 2 or more persons and you have not specified during booking for whom you have booked these extra rooms, please let us know the name of your accommodation and the names of the people for whom you have booked. If you booked a double room but intent to stay alone, and you have not noted this in your booking notes, again, please inform us. If you are arriving earlier, you may need to wait for your room to be prepared. IMPORTANT NOTE: If your airplane arrives at Ankara-Esenboğa airport at the wee hours (let s say around ) and you are booked at KE1 or KE 2 please Gamze Durdu at durdugamze@gmail.com. 5 Maps A detailed but very complex map of the campus is at The map is colour, letter and number coded. Every region has a colour, one or two letters assigned to it and set in a circle, then numbers showing various locations. Some useful locations: KE1 =Ya region, No 14 KE2 =Ya region, No 15 OGV =Ya region, No 10 Sunshine café = Ya region, No 12 ASYM = this is at a far location within the campus and has no letter or number allocated. Find it at bottom left of the map. Culture and Convention Center = Hc region, grey colour, No 2 Vişnelik = (ODTÜ Mezunlar Derneği Vişnelik Tesisleri, where dinner will take place) is at mid-right of the map. The address of Vişnelik is: İşçi Blokları Mahallesi Sokak No:58. Again, the taxi driver will know where to go if you simply say Vişnelik. The distance between Culture and Convention Center and Vişnelik is about 2 km. A simpler map of METU can be found at PLEASE NOTE that in this map the KE 1 is called ODTÜ Kız Konukevi and the KE2 is called ODTÜ Ebi Konukevi. Shopping and eating Next to KE1 there is a small restaurant called ARKABAHÇE. It is open from 7.30 in the morning to at night. Inside OGV there is a cantin that serves food and snacks. Sunshine café also sells food at a self-service base. ODTÜ Çarsı (M region, orange colour) is a small market place where you can find shops of fast food, restaurants, coffee shops, banks, post office, pharmacy, books and stationery, basic clothes, hairdresser, taylor and a small supermarket. There are two photocopy places where you

6 can print your poster. These are located at the basement of the central, 3-floor building at Çarsı (Region M, orange colour, No 1) Retail shops at Çarsı are open between 9.30 am to 6.00 pm. The supermarket is open from 9.30 am to 9.00 pm. Restaurants and cafes are open till or pm. In the morning opening times of these vary depending on whether these shops offer breakfast or not. There are two shop offering breakfast at Çarsı: Doyurucu and Susam Simit. Çatı is another restaurant that sells a good variety of food at an open buffet system. Find it at the map at Ac region, No31 (dark pink colour) In Teknokent, (T region, dark blue) there is also a number of restaurants and coffee shops. Teknokent is rather far from the dormitories but halfway through between Culture and Convention Center and ASYM. The only restaurant that serves alcohol within the campus is located there and it is called Çadır Kebap. It is located at the Silikon block of Teknokent (T region, No2, dark blue) ASYM: Closest eating for ASYM is Teknokent in the campus (dark blue colour, at No8 at Galyum block there are cafes and restaurants and at No2, at Silikon block is the Çadır Kebap) where there is a rather limited variety of places. Rich in shopping/eating is the Bilkent Plaza (2.3 km). Cepa and Kent park are at 4.7 km distance from ASYM. PLEASE NOTE that tobacco and alcohol products are not sold in METU campus. The closed place to buy these is about 500 m as you go straight outside the campus from the A4 gate. There is a shop, called Naz gıda that also sells prepacked food items, bread and dairy products. Above the shop there is a small bar/restaurant. Supermarkets inside the shopping centers Cepa and Kent Park also sell tobacco and alcohol. These are located on one of the main city roads (Eskisehir road) and about 500 m at the left of A1 gate. You can also find all these at Bilkent Plaza. Trips All buses for all trips will start from the parking lot behind the Culture and Convention Center. For the Neolithic trip, on the 31 st August and the Eskısehir trip on the 1 st September, there will be students waiting for you in front of Sun Shine café. They will wear their ICAZ conference badges. Please be there by For people staying at ASYM we will come to pick you up.
