Basil: CA running into quality issues as growing areas cool. We ve switched to MX grown, but quality is also hit or miss. English Cucumber supplies remain limited & expensive this week. New crops from Baja, the US & Canada slowly coming on over the next few weeks should bring relief. County Line Lettuce Update: Supplies of local Baby Mixed Lettuces should be steady through September, as well as throughout the annual north-to-south transition from Petaluma to the Coachella Valley. A limited amount of Little Gem will be available through the rest of September & is projected to gap until mid-october. Lemon update: CA grown choice & fancy grades 115, 140 & 165ct in stock this week. Supplies starting to improve as CA, MX & the last of Chilean fruit have increased: Prices are down this week. Organic Lemons all MX & a hot market. Potatoes: Stockton is done; switching to WA grown. Stonefruit update: Frog Hollow s Organic Yellow Peach variety now is Cal Red, the last variety of the Summer, & it s a very tasty, flavorful Peach! August Red variety Yellow Nectarines now in stock. 3 Farm Spotlight: Comanche Creek Farms Comanche Creek Farms began out of their desire to have the best tasting, wholesome, picked at its peak, produce. They began by experimenting with different varieties, which expanded their garden to the point of being able to supply finer restaurants in the local area, and in 1997 they began supplying restaurants on the North Coast. Just south of Chico, about 75 miles outside of Sacramento, Comanche Creek Farms is nestled against the riparian habitat of Comanche Creek.Their produce grows in the mineral rich soil of the Butte Creek alluvion fan. Out of respect for the environment, they have adopted a constructive organic approach to their farming. With the knowledge that soil is not simply a means for anchoring plant roots and holding artificial fertilizers to provide plant nutrients, they work with nature, recycling natural materials, and growing cover crops to maintain soil fertility and of course, they use only natural methods of pest control. These complex workings of creation have been successfully sustaining life for eons of time, their organic cultivation principals closely follow those found in the natural world. Crisps will now be in a 12x5oz package and the flatbreads in 8x6oz pack. -Moonside Creamery s new cheeses are so wonderfully successful that we will be ordering two weeks in advance to help cheesemaker Jennifer Kirkham with projections.
