2 Quality and Product News: Weather Watch/Farm Forecast: Cool weather in Northern MX slows growth of Cucumbers, Eggplant, Lettuces, Peppers, Zucchini, Yellow Squash & Tomatoes; supplies very limited, strong market. Freezing weather throughout CA, AZ & Northern MX damaged all crops last week. That, plus previous warm weather thru most of February caused crops to grow ahead of schedule & now they re forecast to finish before the Huron district or Salinas area start up. Stay tuned on what that will mean to us over the next few weeks. Overall, quality down & most prices up on most items this week. Citrus: Lemons-Market easing as the Central Valley is in production now. Limes- All MX grown; between crops currently. Prices sky high. Most all available fruit is running quite large. 3 Farm Spotlight: Lakeside Organics Dick, and his brother farmed green beans in high school on a 55-acre farm in Watsonville, California. That farm later became the first farmland Lakeside Organic Gardens converted to organic in This location is the inspiration for the Lakeside Organic Gardens logo, which includes a turn of the century lakefront farmhouse and water tower amidst rolling hills. Once Dick got the bug for organic farming, things took off. Every year Lakeside Organic Gardens increases acreage and runs trials with new vegetable varieties to improve the program.
