Supplies expected to be limited across a whole range of produce. Prices have already risen as a result of projected losses. For example, Comanche Creek is expecting to lose 50% of their first crop of Heirloom Tomatoes. In addition, bloom drop from the heat may cause gaps in sequential plantings. -Black Mission Figs will gap for 3 weeks, then 2nd, major crops returns. -CA Cherry season is done; PNW crop to start at weeks end- Chelan variety first. -New CA crop fresh Garlic- both Organic & conventional, starting this week! 2 Farm Spotlight: Capay Organics In 1976, Capay organic family farm was started with 20 acres of star thistle and a dream. Inspired by the idea of farming sustainably, Kathy Barsotti and Martin Barnes started a tradition of practicing healthy crop rotation, encouraging a diverse ecosystem around the fields, efficiently using local water sources and carefully selecting produce varieties that grow well and taste great. This vision and tradition is continued on by their children to provide the best products possible. On top of all this, the micro-climate and soil type creates an ideal farming environment for nearly 60 types of fruits and vegetables and over 130 varieties. The farm owners are Andrew Brait, Judith Redmond, Paul Muller, Dru Rivers, Jenna Muller, and Amon Muller.
