2 Quality and Product News: Lettuce Update: All Gem Lettuces remain limited as a result of slow growth & shifting of growing regions, including County Line Little Gem, Mann Packing s Honey Gem plus Tanamura & Antle brand Sweet Gem. Iceberg Lettuce is still very limited & of marginal quality/weight. Price has steadied but still very high. Pineapple Update: Pineapples are coming in currently with some green skin and a bit pale but do not let this fool you! These pineapples are super high in sugar and are truly decadent. Comanche Creek Farm Update: It was over 100 F in Chico this past weekend, so many varieties of Heirloom Tomatoes are coming on strong! Choose now from the Caprese, a 12-pound value-packed case of smaller sized varieties, or the Larger Mixed Heirlooms, available both in #1 & Utility Grades. Toybox Cherry Tomato packing will soon change to Clamshells. County Line Harvest Update: County Line South is done! Within the next couple of weeks, Petaluma grown Bloomsdale Spinach, French Breakfast Radishes, Bunched Lacinato & Spigarello Kales will be harvest-ready. Also, their unparalleled Organic Baby Mixed Lettuce & straight packs of Baby Lettuce plus Little Gem supplies are transitioning from SoCal to local, Petaluma crops. Arugula should be in this coming week, & Little Gems should be ready to go in 1-2 weeks! 3 Farm Spotlight: Comanche Creek Farm Jim Miller started Comanche Creek Farms just south of Chico in Butte County. The farm is located in the Northern Sacramento Valley in a riparian area between Highway 5 and 99 where the soil is full of minerals. Butte Creek runs nearby and the overflow has greatly enriched the soil over the years. The deep-seated philosophy underlying the farm is a great respect for the environment and this has led to the adoption of many organic methods of farming. Jim grows cover crops to aid and maintain soil fertility he uses only natural methods of pest control and recycles natural materials back into the soil. The initial desire was to grow the best tasting and healthiest produce possible for the Miller family. One year Jim and his family were eating at Mendocino restaurant and knew Comanche Creek tomatoes were much better than what the restaurant was serving. The chef agreed and a business was born. The farm owners are Andrew Brait, Judith Redmond, Paul Muller, Dru Rivers, Jenna Muller, and Experimenting to find the best vegetable varieties (Comanche Creek grows tomatoes, herbs, peppers, squash and melons, as well as other seasonal produce) for the farm lead to the Amon Muller.
