2 Quality and Product News: County Line Lettuce Update: Supplies of local Baby Mixed Lettuces improving mid-week. Arugula, Chard, Mixed Mustards, Turnips & Beets starting. Little Gem gapping this week. New Sustainable Micros now in from Farm Ecology, grown locally in San Jose! Choices include Lemon Balm, Opal Basil, New Zealand Spinach, Bronze Fennel, Amaranth Burgundy, Arugula, Lemon Basil, Thai Basil, Cilantro, Parsley & Red Veined Sorrel (will replace Petite Hearts on Fire). More to follow in the coming months! Belgian Endive: Availability is back up to normal on the White Endive! Red & Mixed remain in short supply for now. Also, Coraline Chicory will be limited for about 3-4 weeks while the new roots are growing. English Cucumber supplies remain limited & expensive this week. New crops from Baja, the US & Canada slowly coming on over the next few weeks should bring relief. Green Onions: Still a tight & very active market; crops were damaged by recent storms & particularly hot, humid weather over the summer. 3 Farm Spotlight: County Line Farms David Retsky started County Line Harvest on a six-acre plot on the Sonoma-Marin County line before moving over the hill in 2007 to Red Hilt Ranch in Marin County. Shortly after settling in on the new property, Marin Agriculture Land Trust acquired the easement on Red Hill Ranch, preserving it forever as farmland. Not only did this new property provide more acreage for cultivation, but the abundance of renewable on-site water and the MALT easement helped ensure the continuation of County Line's goal to provide fresh produce to its surrounding communities. County Line Harvest is a certified organic farm with two locations in California: Petaluma, Marin County and Thermal Riverside County. The two farms allow them to meet the varied produce demands of their customers year-round.
