1 Highlights: Highlights concerning Cereals - unprocessed Date Issue 21/Jan/2019 Researchers in have developed a method to identify the geographic origin of rice. The method was tested on 15 blind samples of commercially packaged rice were used from supermarkets across 4 areas of and it was found that 40% of the samples had a different origin to that declared on the packaging. The method is also able to pick up cadmium contamination in rice. New research suggests that 60% of all wild coffee species are under threat of extinction due to factors such as climate change, deforestation and fungal pathogens.
