1 Highlights: Highlights concerning Beverages 13/Jun/2018 Thousands of bottles labelled as Prosecco have been seized in Coventry, UK after it was discovered that the bottles of wine originated from eastern Europe (possibly Moldova) rather than the Italian region around Venice and Trieste that is the only area able to use the term 'Prosecco'. This fraud is an ongoing problem for legal prosecco producers, with report released by the Central Inspectorate of Quality Protection and Fraud Repression (ICQRF) earlier this year showing that there had been 749 cases of fraud involving Prosecco between June 2014 and the end of Counterfeit Prosecco bottles seized in the UK Highlights concerning Fruiting vegetables 13/Jun/2018 An increasing issue has been picked up by HorizonScan regarding chilli from India contaminated with aflatoxins. Alerts have been received from Switzerland, Greece, Italy the UK and Germany. Aflatoxins in chilli from India

This follows the release of a RASFF alert form the UK Highlights concerning Cereals - processed 15/Jun/2018 Following a food recall added to HorizonScan earlier today regarding Salmonella in Honey Smacks cereal, a report has now been released linking the products to a nationwide Salmonella mbandaka outbreak in the USA. There have been 73 reported illnesses so far across 31 states. From the 1st Turkish lemons of July 2018 up to the 31st of December % of Turkish lemons will be checked for pesticide residues. This follows concerns raised by other producers and the fact that 6 reports were received during the season concerning Turkish lemons with high levels of Imazalil (with some exceeding the MRL by more than 100%).

3 Page 3 of 9 Highlights concerning Cereals - unprocessed 19/Jun/2018 The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) Unapproved GM has confirmed the discovery of unapproved wheat in Canada genetically modified wheat plants containing a glyphosate-tolerant trait developed by Monsanto. The discovery has prompted Japan to ban imports of Canadian wheat, and authorities are worried that more countries may follow. Genetically modified wheat is not approved by any government around the world for commercialization.
