1 Highlights: Highlights concerning Feedstuff 17/Jan/2018 A study carried out by Utrecht University in the Netherlands has raised concerns over the possible danger posed to pets and owners from feeding a raw meat based diet. The study analysed 8 different brands of frozen raw pet food and a total of 35 commercial products. E. coli O157:H7 was found in 23% of the samples, Listeria monocytogenes in 54% and Salmonella in 30% of the frozen raw meat pet foods. Dangerous antibiotic resistant pathogens were also found in samples. 4 contained the parasite Sarcocytis Cruz, and another 4 products contained Sarcocytis tenella. 2 products were also found to contain Toxoplasma gondii. This is due to the possibility that the additive may contain nano-sized particles and as no long-term study with nano silicon dioxide has been conducted, EFSA could not give the additive the all clear.
