1 Sandy Senior Scene Sandy, Oregon Gateway to Mt. Hood MARCH & APRIL 2017 Sandy Senior Center ~ Established April 15, 1974 Located in the Melvin N. Haneberg Community Center Pioneer Blvd., Sandy, OR Hours: 8:30am - 5:00pm, Monday - Friday/Phone: Fax: Funded by: City of Sandy/Clackamas County/State of Oregon Senior & Disabled Services/Older Americans Act Thanking My Posse One of the benefits of being a short-timer is allowing myself a bit of self-indulgence without feeling guilty. It would be difficult to find a more caring team than the wonderful women I ve had the pleasure of working with. They are dedicated to making sure all aspects of the Center run smoothly and all of you have the best possible experience when you walk through the doors, take a trip or access services. They not only work here but have donated money and volunteered countless hours for the greater good as well. Iris White has been the Food Service Manager for 38 years. She also plans and drives some of the trips. Iris has an upbeat attitude and truly wants everyone to feel welcome and have a good time. sports leagues, but she was instrumental in construction of Sandy s first dog park. She possesses the unique combination of being a dog person, a cat person, and a people person, displaying kindness to all. Sarah Reis has been with the Center for 8 years as the Wednesday afternoon Alzheimer s Respite Program Coordinator. She is patient, compassionate and clever in her approach to participants and their loved ones. Dena Isbell has worn several hats and worked off and on at the center for many years. We were lucky enough to hire her permanently in 2015 as Driver and Custodian. She is efficient with a fun and friendly flair. Cami Henderson has served as Client Services Coordinator for 28 years. She knows more about services available to older adults than anyone else in Clackamas County. She is a champion problemsolver and advocate. Andi Howell has been with the City for 4 years, first as Transit Assistant, now as Transit Director. She views public transit as an equalizer. New programs like the Shopper Shuttle demonstrate her innovative and caring approach to providing service. Carol Cohen has worked in Recreation for 16 years, first as Recreation Manager, now as Special Events Coordinator. She is an enthusiastic planner & promoter of fun activities and fitness programs for people of all ages. Bernice Jordan has been delivering warm welcomes from the front desk for 15 years. As Administrative Secretary she is likely the first person many see or talk to. I often hear her say, I ll take care of that...and she does so with an organized, yet creative approach. Sarah Richardson has been Recreation Manager for 9 years. She not only coordinates classes & Muna Rustam began as Transit Assistant in August, Her positive, friendly attitude charms customers and co-workers alike; even when she s collecting transit tax. What a blessing it has been to work, live and laugh with these very special ladies. They are united in their mission to provide an outstanding slate of community services to our citizens. Not only that, but they are good sports who have dressed up in wild costumes and performed crazy Halloween skits to help bring joy in this world. I will forever treasure the memory of our time together. Nancy
