1 Message from the Headteacher Key Values: Innovation, Confidence, Aspiration, Respect, Enthusiasm 2017 Michaelmas Term No. 10 Newsletter Dear Parents and Children This has been such a productive term for Prep. It has been lovely to welcome so many parents and grandparents into school this week for the start of the Christmas period. EYFS Nativity I was so proud of the pupils nativity this morning. Such confident and joyful delivery. Thank you for the stars of the show and also the wonderful EYFS team. We are always looking for ways to improve A spoiler alert for next year is talks I have heard about a nativity held outdoors with straw bale seating. It all sounded very exciting but in typical Mr Dyson fashion, I had to reign him in at angels flying in from trampolines! Christingle Our annual Christingle Service will take place on Thursday afternoon at 2.30pm and will be led by Rev Marsburg. Christingle is a celebratory event, which takes place every year in the run up to Christmas, in schools and churches across the country. Now in its 49th year, its aim is to raise millions to help The Children s Society change the lives of disadvantaged children. We will be sending home a container on Monday, with children from Y3-Y6, and would be grateful if you could send it back on Thursday with a donation any amount would be appreciated. The children will each come home with a Christingle. To see the work The Children s Society does, take a look at
2 Viking FM 20 schools in 20 days We were pleased to be selected for Viking FM s breakfast show. Prep-recording was this week and we are expecting our Year 1 and 2 joke tellers to be on air on Tuesday or Wednesday. They are on air after 8 o clock. I.A.P.S. Celebration I am delighted to announce that yesterday it was confirmed thought the last round of the selection process, that Hull Collegiate Prep school has been accredited as a world leading Prep school through IAPS s. To be eligible there are strict criteria for evidence of a broad curriculum offer, excellent pastoral care, a commitment to staff professional development and for excellent in pupil outcomes at the end of each key stage. We are committed to delivering excellent in a well rounded education for our pupils. Please join me in congratulating the whole team on the huge journey we have been on over the past 5 terms. It is a privilege to be the Headteacher of this school. Advent I am sure many of you opened the first precious door on your advent calendars this morning. I saw this advent of kindness online this morning and shared it via Twitter. #spreadkindess Please follow me on Twitter, if only so that I can show Mr Dyson that I can reach my target of 200 followers for Christmas! But jokes aside, there are daily posts of the learning, achievements and developments of the school posted each day. May I point you to Mr Finlay Lough s powerful live Tweet this morning. Words of wisdom and maturity this morning that I was compelled to share with the wider school community. I hope to see you all at the Fair tomorrow. Mrs Kell
3 Headteacher s Commendations Harry Dunn Harry was a shining light in our PSHE morning this week. He spoke with confidence and knowledge and shared his own experiences willingly with the rest of the class one of tomorrow s leaders, for sure. Stella Pearson We have been designing our own friendly monsters in order to create story characters. Stella thought very carefully about how she wanted her monster to look. After drawing and colouring her design, she then spent a considerable time thinking about her monster s characteristics and independently recording them using her phonics skills. Well done, Stella!

5 Switzerland Ski Trip February 2019 The deadline has been extended until WEDNESDAY 6 DECEMBER. Please ensure that reply slips are with Mr Windeatt (Seniors) or the Prep Admin Office. Lost Property Harry Earl (Y4N) - jumper (named) Parking Please could parents park in the main car park when waiting to collect children from after school activities. It is not appropriate to park in the bus lane on the school entrance road, sometimes even side by side, forcing cars on to the opposite side of the road, into oncoming traffic, to pass. The pedestrian crossing is also being obstructed meaning that moving cars cannot see children waiting to cross. Please think about where you are parking and help to keep our school safe. PSHCE Morning All the children from years 1-6 took part in the PHSCE morning this week. Year 3 were particularly inspired. They thought about friendships: We have been using our looking, listening, speaking, thinking and concentrating skills to learn how to become a better friend and how to solve friendships problems both at school and at home. We have all enjoyed taking part in many circle time games and activities. A special thank you to Mrs Malthouse who led the Year 3 morning.
