1 Highlights: Highlights concerning General information Date Issue Summary 26/Jul/2018 A survey carried out by the Safefood organisation Listeria found in half in Northern Ireland found Listeria present in half of the Northern Irish food operations that participated. Positive samples of Northern Irish food operations surveyed by Safefood came from 12 of the 24 participants, with Listeria found in 18 food samples and 76 environmental swab samples. Highlights concerning Processed foods Date Issue Summary 27/Jul/2018 A multi-country outbreak of Salmonella agona is believed to be linked to ready-toeat products containing cucumbers and prepared in the UK, according to EFSA and the ECDC. So far 147 people (with 1 fatality) have been reported as falling ill across 5 countries: Denmark, Finland, Germany, Ireland and the UK. The highest number of cases has been in the UK with 129 of the reported cases occurring there. So far EFSA and the ECDC have been unable to identify the specific point in the production chain where contamination took place. Fatal Salmonella agona outbreak linked to ready-toeat products

2 Page 2 of 16 Highlights concerning General information Date Issue Summary 30/Jul/2018 In the first study of its kind in India, the Illegal sale of GM Centre of Science and Environment (CSE) has processed foods in exposed the large scale, illegal presence of India uncovered genetically modified processed foods on sale. The production, sale and import of GM foods is banned without approval of the FSSAI in India. Of 92 products tested, 32% were found to contain GM food, with 80% of those found to be GM positive being imported goods. Products found to contain illegal GM ingredients included edible oil, packaged snacks and infant food.
