6 A place in the»sonne«(the sun)for everyone Only when the historical 400 years have been reached, it becomes really interesting. So this is what you almost want to say when talking about the Inn»Sonne«in Marburg an der Lahn. In the 407th year after its foundation in 1569, the sun was given a great honour. In 1977 a jury of celebrities awarded it the award "Germany's most cosy inn". The whole of Marburg and many visitors from abroad were up and about in front of the sun. For the first time in four centuries, Germany's most cosy inn threatened to burst at the seams. But even almost 450 years after its foundation, it still stands and is as good as ever! When Arnold Klein ran the house from 1569 to 1580, it was mainly used for baking bread, but cider (apple wine) was also pressed and served. The old pressing-stone from the year 1604, which was found in the cellar during the reconstruction work in the thirties of the last century, serves today as the base of the tiled stove. The stove has lost none of its old fascination and is all the more cosy today. Back then, students and professors discovered the "Sonne" for themselves and have remained loyal to it to this day. In addition to the Brothers Grimm, Emil von Behring, Bunsen, Pasternak and many other students from the university and world-class teachers could certainly also be seen here. Surely everyone liked it as much as you did, because even after many years of absence they still come back often and look around in the rooms and recall with pleasure their stories from the old times! Even the legal-scientific literature at the university is said to have been influenced by the "Sonne". For centuries the guest has been the centre of attention in our house. Didn't the Brothers Grimm stop for a drink and collect their famous fairy tales here? Later, the student association "Corpus Suevia-Strasbourg zu Marburg" expanded its daily lunch menu to include a suitable opportunity to enjoy beer-drinking in considerable sizes. Today it is you coming alone or with your family or friends to eat and drink with us! The tradition of hospitality, which began with the Kleins in the 16th century and was cultivated by the successors, the Bernhards, the Baums, Bopps, Dornseifs, Schaafs and Schöbels in the 17th-19th century, has been continued by the Tontara family since Second generation since And that's how it should be in the future - so that everyone will be happy to return and remember the past... A marriage protocol from 1730 indicates how the house has been handed over to its successor by the owner. With great love and care:»whereas the widow of the baker Ludwig Conrad Bopp took Johann Caspar Dornseiff as her husband.
